I completed a solo ride of this route in April & May 2026. It is very well collated and was a joy to cycle, although the weather conditions were challenging in places. As expected there were Road Closures, some with signed diversions and some not, but nothing insurmountable and some self-induced detours for accommodation etc. The ascent suggests 7,700m, but my experience was that it was about double that. Enjoyed this. Well done.
Well done that was a great achievement and something I'd like to do when I leave the current job. Just skim read your blog and have saved it for a proper read when I'm not faffing around like I am today. That was useful you listed the accommodation you used - I'm not a camper when cycling away - and what was most interesting (to me) was whether you booked ahead or not. How did you deal with (secure?) bicycle storage which always seems to be the part for me which takes quite a bit of analysis. Have seen also through other (motorcycle) reviews that NC500 accommodation is quite expensive. Did you have any mechanical issues?
