The Hythe ferry stopped operating in August 2024 after damage was found at Hythe pier.
The company was put into liquidation in April 2026.
As the Walk Wheel Cycle Trust (formerly-known as Sustrans) puts it: "The Southampton to Hythe ferry is suspended until further notice."
There are quite good cycle paths from the centre of Southampton to Redbridge, then parallel to Totton Bypass, and a good route is over the Eling toll bridge (free for cyclists).
